The smoking man...

Smoking Man, originally uploaded by Phil Steere.

Went out for a brief walk with my camera yesterday and snapped this fellow outside (well, sort of half in half out really) a pub.

I don't know if it's just me, but I think a picture of someone smoking always make them look more interesting or thoughtful.....or dirty.

I think the shot would have been improved if the wall ash tray wasn't there, but ho hum.

New SD Cards.....Ahoy!

I got myself a couple of new SD cards in the post today.

They are Transcend 8gb Class 10 SDHC cards. I had previously been using a Sandisk 8gb Class 4 card and the notice in speed is quite noticeable when it comes to continuous shooting/writing data to the card or when viewing/copying on my PC.

Highly recommended. (also a bargain at £15 for the two!)

I got a new camera bag....

Well, I thought it was about time I invested some money in actually protecting my kit rather than just spending it on lenses and the like. I was on a budget and managed to find this on Amazon so thought I would share:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002VPE1WK/ref=oss_product

I was lucky as it was £20 when I bought it last week. Think it's gone back up to around £30 now. Bum.

To be honest it pretty much covers everything I was looking for. I can fit my Nikon D3100, Fujifilm S6500 Flash unit, Zoom lens, Chargers, straps, memory cards, filters, caps, lens blower, microfibre cloths and so on.

It's even got straps on the side for my little tripod (just like the one in the picture up there). Good stuff!

Infact, it covers exactly what I was looking for, a bag which could hold all my camera stuff. Sorted.

Workshop at work...

I took my camera into work with me on Monday. The building is a fantastic Grade 2 listed Regency building and most of the rooms still have their original features. Keep your eye out on here as I will be trying to take some shots of some of those soon....

This room is on the basement level and was used as a workshop at one point but has now been used as a dumping ground for years. (I am in the process of clearing it out and turning into a usable space). I thought it would make some interesting photos, so here are a few I liked:

Welcome to the dark side...

Stormtrooper, originally uploaded by Phil Steere.

Decided to try out my new flashgun last week.

This is a picture I took of my Stormtrooper helmet (yes, I am a giant nerd)
Managed to bounce the light enough to give the lighting a nice feel, then I blacked out the background and softened it all up a bit in photoshop.

Sort of looks like a 3D render now, I think I like it though!

Brighton Bandstand

Brighton Bandstand, originally uploaded by Phil Steere.
I took this photo on Monday of the Brighton Bandstand on the seafront.

I have wanted take a photo of this for a while since they completed its restoration last year. I finally gave in and took a walk along the seafront on my way home from work to take a few shots.

Some information about the bandstand (for those interested!) can be found here on the Brighton & Hove City Council website:

Enjoy!
