Another new toy....D3100 Battery Grip.

I have been waiting for a few months now for a battery grip to be released for the D3100, and this week was the week!

I managed to find a seller on ebay for them and snapped one up (forgive the pun) as quickly as I could.

Anyway, it arrived yesterday and here are my initial impressions:

I think it's brilliant (have never owned a battery grip before though so can't compare it against much!).

Seems of a good build quality, nice solid battery compartment with battery click locks, slide in compartment to keep your original battery cover in as well which is handy.

The finish matches nicely with the rest of the camera and has a nice rubberised grip when holding portrait.

It does require a cable (which is included) for the other shutter release button to work which plugs into the GPS slot on the side of the camera and then into the grip, no problem with this really as it's not in the way.

The shutter button seems very responsive and can do the half press for focus thing

My only gripe is that the main battery cover door (as in the video I posted above) does not fit amazingly snugly (it's not the wrong size or anything and looks fine, just rattles very slightly but that's me being picky!)

Overall, very impressed and very pleased. Makes the camera feel a lot more comfortable in the hands, plus can I get my two batteries in there now!
